The Fruit:
Sweet cherry,wild cherry or gean is a species of cherry,a flowering plant in the rose family, Rosaceae. It is native to Europe,Anatolia,Maghreb, and West Asia, from the British Isles south to Morocco and Tunisia, north to the Trondheimsfjord region in Norway and east to the Caucasus and northern Iran,with a small isolated population in the western Himalaya. Modern cultivated cherries differ from wild ones in having larger fruit, 2–3 cm diameter. The trees are often grown on dwarfing rootstocks to keep them smaller for easier harvesting.
The Story:
Seeds of a number of cherry species have however been found in Bronze Age and Roman archaeological sites throughout Europe. The reference to “sweet” and “sour” supports the modern view that “sweet” was Prunus avium; there are no other candidates among the cherries found. In 1882 Alphonse de Candolle pointed out that seeds of Prunus avium were found in the Terramare culture of north Italy(1500–1100 BC) and over the layers of the Swiss pile dwellings.
The Medicine:
Medicine can be prepared from the stalks (peduncles) of the drupes that is astringent,antitussive, and diuretic.
Used:
The gum from bark wounds is aromatic and can be chewed as a substitute for chewing gum. A green dye can also be prepared from the plant. Wild cherry is used extensively in Europe for the afforestation of agricultural land and it is also valued for wildlife and amenity plantings.

Our Premium Aged Sweet Cherry Palinka won in 2019 a 1-star on the Grate Taste Competition in the United Kingdom.
Judges said:
-” A clear liquid with a yellow tinge. On the nose there is cherry at the top with vanilla at the base and a bourbon middle. The judges initially worked hard to locate the sweet fruity cherry notes prevailed and we were left with cherry notes lingering. We questioned whether the vanilla oak notes were totally in harmony with the cherry flavours.”
-” Good Quality grappa style drink. Spicy,dried fruits. Smooth, doesn’t burn. We are not really picking up the cherry. Overall pleasing however.”
We recommended our Premium Aged Sweet Cherry Palinka after meals or dessert, or mixed with cherry Funkin juice and lemonade this is the nice summer cocktails.
