Our 17 Years Old Hungarian Brandy a fabulous deep ruby, dark rich vanilla, oak and smoke develop into cherry, grape and sweet raisin notes.

In 2019 Our 17 Years Old  Hungarian Brandy won a 1-star accolade on the Great Taste Competition.

Judges said:

-” A deep caramel gold colour, yet a light, bright grappa aroma-perhaps a meld with dark caramel. On the palate,there’s a marked sense of oak aged grappa, rather than Cognac. Very much a stewed prune palate. We were a touch surprised that the alcohol was still so fiery after 17 years wood aging-but we enjoyed the mellow afterglow.We can’t help thinking it would be manage and indeed benefit from a few more years in barrel,but it does have complexity and depth alongside the touch of fire.”

-“Pleasant warming aroma of dates and molasses, but the flavour is quite harsh and astringent. It packs a lot of heat and then the flavour disappears. We were looking for more depth,especially considering the ageing process.”

-“A deeply coloured brandy with an attractive viscosity. The oak, coffee, and vanilla notes come through on the nose.This is a deeply flavoured brandy with a warming appeal.”

-” A Fabulous deep ruby,dark rich and enticing in colour with a nice viscosity and perfect clarity. On the nose,rich vanilla, oak and smoke develop into cherry,grape and sweet raisin notes. On tasting,it is initially earthy,dry and smoky then the character  develops further into dry oak with an exceptionally dry finish. We felt the potential journey was interrupted in blocks and did not provide as smooth an excursion as promised in the nose. We also expected more sweetness given the description……”

-” A sweet, wood-scented aroma with deep cocoa undertones. This packs the expected brandy heat, but does not burn. Flavours of caramel,candied fruit and raisin. We were impressed by the balance of fruit and fire here, and enjoyed the dry aftertaste. On the second sip, flavours of citrus also revealed themselves. The texture was soft and smooth, leaving a mellow impression overall, and we felt that would be a great introduction for new brandy drinkers. A little more complexity of flavour, with more of those cocoa elements coming through on the palate, could have taken this even further in the awards stakes for us.”
